The name comes from the design of the crystals going black - grey - clear - grey - black. Dark becoming light and then reverting back to dark. This is not a good/evil type of transformation. This is more of a birth/life/death, coming from the earth and then at the end going back into the earth, type of transformation. The endless cycle of change that is life. Night becomes day only to become night again.
